Devon CC Superfast Broadband Delivery

What is of concern is that the Areas that have 'won' funding in England share the same percentage and end delivery date of superfast or improved broadband, as the UK Government Promise to others without current funding. How does that work?

If you are paying for BT Standard Broadband now (up to 20 Mbps) with calls. BT Infinity which is Superfast Broadband (up to 40 Mbps) is the same price.

What we don't need in Devon is to get locked into some obscure system with a sole unknown broadband provider. So we are left with a take it or leave it situation and have no choice. This usually translates into paying more for the same thing or receiving less (like we are now).

I am hoping that Devon County Council will start to be transparent over these matters and not go for the easy lazy way out. After all County Hall will be superfast at the end of this month and the rest of their area - excepting Dartmouth (46 Votes in the Race to Infinity) and Ivybridge (Part of 01752 Plymouth) could be treated to the slowest roll out of superfast broadband possible.

Because if the stated aim for Devon County Council is to deliver within the same time frame with funding as it is without. The Bid was a complete waste of time and effort.

Add to this the fact that the UK Government will announce Broadband funding allocation for every English Local Authority by July 2011. Will Devon County Council move on with this and disclose any type of delivery plan or move over to allow more progressive Councils past?

There are only so many fibre optic enablers, cable layers and technics - let's hope Devon does not get trampled on in the rush to engage them.
