FINAL PREPARATIONS are now in place for tomorrow's Exmouth Christmas Cracker. On Saturday 1 December, you can enjoy a day of medieval magic in the Strand and Rolle Street, including a 14ft-high fire-breathing dragon…
The Nelderwelders’ 14ft-high metallic, fire-breathing dragon - a big hit at last year's Exmouth Christmas Cracker - is back again this year. Don't miss it!
Apart from the market stalls, mulled wine and mince pies, and seasonal entertainment including music, fire-eaters, acrobats, jesters, wire-walkers, camel rides, Punch and Judy and an ice rink, Exmouth's World of Country Life is creating a straw-filled manger for two donkeys, lambs and baby goats as part of an illuminated nativity scene.
In addition, vintage cyclists from Cycle West Vintage Velo will be circling The Strand before heading off on a ride around Exmouth.
Organiser Alistair Cope said "We are delighted to back in Exmouth, where we feel so at home and welcome."
To tie up with the ride, Rebecca and Stuart of Bikelands in the Strand have presented a special 24-carat gold hand-painted Bicycle Mug as a prize for the "Best Dressed Bicycle". And INC, also on the Strand, has kindly donated prizes for Best Dressed Lady and Best Dressed Man.
There's also the return of Nelderwelders' metallic, fire-breathing dragon, made entirely from re-cycled materials. Standing 14 feet high, it was a big hit last year, lighting the night sky with flame.
Other events at the Cracker include the Exmouth Pop-Up Art Centre. With an exciting exhibition from local artists, it will be an opportunity to pick up an original piece of local artwork at an affordable price.
The Exmouth Festival will be running children's Christmas arts and crafts activities. Local business Ice-Mountain will lay out a "magical" ice rink, while Exe Entertainment will be decorating the Strand in a "Pop Medieval" fashion as well as a bringing facepainting, a bouncy castle and fun for the little ones.
In addition there will be 45 stalls at the Christmas market in the Stand, with crafts, art and sculpture. For the foodies, Christmas puddings, mulled wine, delicious cakes, hog roast, gingerbread, Egyptian, Mexican and gourmet food will be on offer. There will also be a tombola, games, goodies and teddy bears, all-day entertainment on stage and walkabout acts, roaming around the Strand. Meanwhile over at the Indoor Market, there will be a 12 Days of Christmas Treasure Hunt to enjoy.
The day will end with the switching on of the Christmas tree lights – greatly enhanced by the efforts of the Exmouth Christmas Lights community group (see special ECL story) – and a firework display – don't miss it!
And after the Cracker? Well, there's late-night shopping on Friday 14 December where entertainment will be on offer through the town until 8.00pm and on Saturday 15 December there will be free parking, on a first-come first-served basis for all who park in the London Inn car park behind the Magnolia Centre from 10.00am.
