Shopping in Exmouth: Valentine's gifts for that special lady...

AS EXMOUTH gets ready for Valentine's Day, it's time to think about a gift for your sweetheart. And while you're unlikely to go wrong with the traditional offerings of flowers and chocolates, this is one occasion when a box of Celebrations and a bunch of carnations from the garage forecourt simply won't cut it!

Valentine's Day is all about showing that special person just how much you care, so go for the wow factor – the secret is finding out what she would really love to get from you. For example, Valentine's flowers don't have to be red roses – if you know she adores lilies, a huge bouquet of scented pink Stargazers is sure to win her heart. Or how about orchids for something more exotic? And for that special touch, make sure to include a card, love note or poem in your own handwriting!
Say it with flowers
Exmouth has a great selection of florists who will be happy to chat through your ideas to create something really special. chubbybunny recommends The Floriade in Rolle Street: 'When I have used this florist I have always found the staff really friendly and helpful. They put together a special bouquet of flowers for me to fit my budget. The flowers were beautiful and must have been fresh as they lasted a long time. They were carefully wrapped and the final presentation was beautiful.' And missannthrope adds: 'They put so much care and attention into what they do that you're sure to be bowled over by the results.' Also recommended is Daff-O-Dil's in Church Street. meclo87 was delighted with the bouquet she received last year: 'Had an amazing hand tie delivered for valentines day! The flowers were fresh and lasted for two and a half weeks! would recommend Daff-O-Dil's flowers for any occasion.'
For chocolates with a personal touch, try Card Bar in the Magnolia Centre. They have a fabulous range of handmade chocolates, and if you know her favourites, you'll really melt her heart if you get the helpful staff to make you up a special box just for her, complete with beautiful gift wrapping. You can pick up a Valentine's card there, too. And don't forget Thornton's – they have a huge choice of ready-to-go Valentine's selection boxes. chloe_246 says: ' It is a small store but it contains all the confectionary that you could ever want and possibly more!'. You can even have your sweeheart's name and your personal love message iced onto a range of yummy chocolate gifts! If a cake is more to her fancy, check out the cupcakes at Oggy Oggy Pasties – too pretty for words!
The scent of romance
Perfume is another popular gift, and one that's sure to go down well – provided you know her favourite scent (tastes are very individual, so don't be tempted to experiment unless you like to live dangerously!). Boots always has a good range of fragrances, both traditional and modern, so you should find what you're looking for. chloe_246 says: '...it's easy to find everything that you need. The staff are friendly and helpful when trying to find certain products.'
Personal and romantic
The key to a winning Valentine's gift is to make it personal and romantic – so however much she's into golf or cooking, this is not the time for a new set of clubs or a Magimix! If she likes music or movies, though, you could look for CDs or DVDs of her favourite romantic tracks or films at WH Smith while shopping for her card. hippychic1 says: 'Who doesn't like WHSmith? It's one of the country's best chains and I've always found the staff in the Exmouth branch most friendly and helpful.'
Diamonds are a girl's best friend...
Of course the ultimate love token has to be jewellery, and if you're thinking of popping the question this Valentine's Day, you may well be looking for a ring. Paul Ashby Crane in the Magnolia Centre has a great selection – Awalter says: ' I spent a long time with Robert as I was looking for an engagement ring. Whilst he did not have what I wanted in the shop he sourced a number of rings for me to look at and really took on board what I was looking for. From this he designed a ring that was perfect in every way. Service was second to none. Will use them again and again.'
We love a romantic story here at Exmouth People, so if you do propose to your sweetheart this Valentine's and they accept, do tell us about it! And remember, it's FREE to post your Valentine's message here, so if you want to shout your love to the Exmouth rooftops, go for it...
