VERILY, the Exmouth Christmas Cracker 2012 is hobgoblin go! Plans have just been announced for this year's medieval-themed event in the Strand, along Rolle Street and the town centre on Saturday 1 December, 10am-8pm…

Highlights include Christmas market stalls, entertainment, "seasonal delights" and, thanks to the Exmouth Christmas Lights group, a "welcome return" of the town's Christmas lights. In addition, the Military Wives Choir will be singing in the Christmas tree lights switch-on at 4pm.

Not only that, but there will also be fireworks, camels, Peterkin the Fool, the fire-breathing dragon, nativity animals and the Daughters of Elvin with a medieval ceilidh.

New acts also being arranged include a "medieval twist" on samba band Street Heat, a "small ring circus" filled with acrobats, fire breathers and wire walkers. There will also be "Vintage Christmas" cyclists and a town crier competition.

There's also the return of the Exmouth Santa Dash at 11am in the Strand. You are asked to "Come dressed as Santa to run five short laps with a crazy crowd of other runners". There will be prizes for best costumes. Every runner is awarded a medal. Baby and toddler Santas will have their own lap before the main dash. If you'd like to take part, you can collect a sponsorship form from the Town Hall reception

"With hay bales, hog roasts, spiced wine, dancing and merriment; the Exmouth Christmas Cracker is just around the corner," says Town Management Officer Suzanne Birkett, "so put it in your diary!"
