In the UK afternoon tea has become an institution, England was built on such traditions and in the past few years the concept of afternoon tea has once again experienced a surge in popularity. There are hundreds of quaint little tea houses across the country that serve up your favourite Earl Grey and Victoria sponge cake. Likewise there are a number of top notch hotels that have taken afternoon tea to another level with champagne and strawberries and every cake, scone and sandwich under the sun.

There’s nothing better than enjoying a cup of good English tea but if you fancy a change every once in a while there are hundreds of other varieties to tantalise the taste buds. Herbal teas are a great way to enjoy a hot, steamy beverage without the caffeine, what’s more they can offer some great health benefits.

Raspberry tea

The Raspberry leaf has different health benefits to raspberries and doesn’t taste like them either. Although it still naturally contains various vitamins and minerals, in particular Vitamin C, Raspberry leaf tea is best known for its potential benefits helping women in later stages of pregnancy. So enjoy

Peppermint tea

Peppermint tea is best known for its digestion supporting properties. Its refreshing taste is also a welcome change from the classic herbal teas and although it may not go as well with a slice of cake, it’s great to help settle and soothe the stomach after an indulgent dinner.

Chamomile and Vanilla tea

Chamomile is more of an evening tea than an afternoon tea as it is renowned for its relaxing properties which may help you sail of to sleep. It is also thought to help with digestion but perhaps more popular for its soothing ability.

Enjoying your Chamomile tea with a hint of Vanilla adds another sweeter dimension and makes it great enjoyed with an equally sweet treat.
