The Magnolia is one of the many cafes in Exmouth that fall into the 'perfectly acceptable but unremarkable' category. While the decor is dull and dated, the premises are neat and clean, and though the cutlery and crockery are cheap and nasty (I don't think I've ever seen flimsier knives) the food and drink are acceptable and reasonably priced. Certainly it's a popular lunch spot with the over-60s, so the management clearly understand their clientele. There's nothing I could criticize without seeming unreasonable, it's just that I find the overwhelming mediocrity of the place utterly depressing. Why don't cafe-owners in Exmouth feel the need to strive for excellence?
