Arts Business- Help and ideas needed
For a year the successful and popular LOOK art and Pebble Studio art galleries at the Pierhead in Exmouth (opposite the Beach pub) has served a different sort of shopping in Exmouth, and it has provided an outlet for local artists work, many of whom had not previously sold work. Set up by Peter Jeffs and Anne Way it was a’new’ way of running a successful business ... ‘shop sharing’ . This reduced their individual overheads of each part of the shop, and reduced the time we need to each actually run the shop, yet allowed freedom to each select their own taste in art and arty gifts.
So many people have given excellent feedback on the appearance, pricing, variety and content of the shop, which they felt lifted the shopping experience in that part of Exmouth. Peter and Anne’s backgrounds as artists but also as an accountant and management consultant certainly helped, and they know that to keep the business viable low overheads are vital.
However the lease on their current business is ending in January as the building is to be demolished, to make way for new flats etc.
Peter and Anne are looking for an innovative new arts-related business. Maybe they could find a shop, cafe, or similar with underused space to ‘shop share’ with an established business? Maybe an existing shop or restaurant would like them to help develop their space into an ‘arts cafe’? Maybe there is scope for an arts ‘pop up’ using unlet premises? Maybe create a mobile art gallery? Maybe start an arts market? They are full of ideas, and good business principles, and would like to create something that is different, viable, and of benefit to Exmouth and its artists.
If you have something to offer whether its an idea, potential premises, or assistance, let Peter know.
