Exmouth's pedestrian traffic lights are a disgrace! Unless you're Usain Bolt you haven't got a chance of getting across them in time before they change! It's an accident just waiting to happen. I reckon the ones on Exeter Road that are synchronized with the ones round the corner in the Parade are on green for pedestrians for about 5 or 6 seconds. I can barely get across the road before they change, and I am reasonably fit! If I was having difficulty in walking or in a wheelchair, I would have barely left the kerb before they changed to red. And the ones at Thorntons and the fish and chip restauarant on Rolle Street are barely any better... Come on, let's get a forum going on Exmouth People to get these lights improved for pedestrians. PEOPLE POWER! That's the way ahead...

I agree, I have also noticed that they don't beep anymore either... i guess the only way for a sight impared person to now cross is to touch the little spinning grommet under the button.. the one that tends to have gunky chewing gum on! nice! Bring back the beep!!!!!

Good points from both toddplant and Grapenut. Currently you take your life in your own hands at many of the town's pedestrian crossings. Clearly the timing of the lights - and the lack of the "beeper" - needs to be investigated urgently.
The problem seemed to arise some months ago when Exmouth's pedestrian lights were updated. Once the work was finished, all the lights seem to be set for the convenience of traffic, rather than pedestrians. This is completely at odds with the environmental and green message from town and district councils that we should walk and cycle more, especially around Exmouth. More crucially it's lethal, and, as Grapenut says, an accident waiting to happen. The current situation is extremely unfair and dangerous for ALL pedestrians – particularly the young, the old, those that are partially sighted and those with mobility problems. So what's the solution?
