The current national and local media have unfortunately been so engrossed in the leaders debate they have neglected the other parties. You could be forgiven if you thought that UKIP and the Greens were not standing in the East Devon constituency. This is the bad side of politics, where democracy is skewed. Reading the comments from many young readers on this site you can see they are not fully informed, this is because of the biased way the media report politics..
The United Kingdom is facing the worst economic situation in generations. There is no disagreement that, whoever forms the next Government, we will pay more in taxes and will all see cuts in essential public services. Despite this, the big three parties believe that it is right to tax more, provide less but still send to Brussels a net six thousand million pounds of British taxpayers money - your money.
UKIP exists because a large and growing number of British voters recognise that this is no longer acceptable. The three old parties are ignoring mainstream voter opinions not just on the EU but on a whole range of serious issues that affect everyday life in this Country.
At a time of growing unemployment the levels of immigration, are increasingly perceived as unacceptably high. Yet to mention this fact is to invite accusations of ‘racism’ or ‘bigotry’ from the out of touch Lib/Lab/Con status quo. Add to these issues the problems with, crime, education, and a shameful lack of support for our Armed Forces and it is no wonder that people are looking for an alternative political voice.
Born in Devon I am the only candidate that exclusively lives and works in the East Devon Constituency - I have not been parachuted in. My two children both attend local state schools. After a 24 year Army career with the Devon & Dorset Regiment, I set up my own small business here. While I am not a natural political activist I decided I had to take action and help represent the views of local people who feel disenfranchised by the three old parties.
A vote for UKIP is a vote for common sense and a stark reminder to those three old parties that they can no longer take you for granted.
