What do people think about trick or treating now? Do people in Exmouth hate trick or treaters or stock up on chocolates, in anticipation? I've got a bag of chocolate pumpkins and eyeballs by my front door, but expect only children accompanied by adults will come knocking.

I believe that Trick or Treat is an American import and from the displays in many of Exmouth's shops Halloween has well and truly caught on over here. I don't think there is anything wrong with trick or treat as long as it is carried out in the right spirit and is not threatening. Last year my door was knocked by one very young girl who was beautifully dressed up as a green witch, and I was pleased to see that she was accompanied by a parent. She was delighted with the sweets I offered and was obviously enjoying herself. This contrasted with the couple of young lads who had made no effort at all to dress up and who clearly wanted money not chocolate - they got neither from me!
