A smaller single-storey pavilion for Exmouth's Strand? Looks as though East Devon District Council and Devon County Council may have come to their senses over this long-running wrangle, and are finally listening to the people of Exmouth. What worries me is the word "complex" in the news report:

There shouldn't be anything "complex" about it at all. It should be a very simple, elegant and attractive building that complements our redeveloped and potentially very beautiful Strand. The building should be for community use only, not for commercial gain. It should be solely for Exmouth's community groups to hold events, stage exhibits, etc, and to get their important message out to the people of Exmouth. And, if the building is small enough and is eco-friendly in its build, it won't cost the Earth to run it. Therefore it won't need a commercial element to subsidize it. What we don't need is another cafe, big, medium or small. With nearly 20 outlets already offering food and drink around the Strand, there is simply no need for it. So forget "complex". Think simple. Think people of Exmouth. Think what we would really want, and not what the money-grabbing commercial entrepreneurs would like to establish in the heart of our town...
