This is the growing aspect of here and now online growth

that Devon County Council ignores. Their aspect is one of watching over 90 percent

of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly implement fibre optic networks now, which instils

the feeling of being left behind on the platform while your luggage leaves on a

Japanese bullet train.

Superfast Broadband - Not!

Underlying this is the lack of political will. The

Conservative led coalition Government promising a 2 Mbps minimum for all by 2015,

willingly endorsed by a Conservative Devon County Council.  At least that promise is more fixed now and

2017 is not quoted.  This of course is

more superslow than superfast and supports telecom providers who may provide up

to 20 or 24 Mbps for payment.  But

deliver by political approval anything that can work out for some a shade

faster than dial-up. At the same full cost of course.

Businesses are looking for Cloud Computing and to have this they

need stability and speed that only fibre optic brings. I doubt it will be long

before there will be a move to PC Cloud use. Well not in the low quality copper

wire network digital desert that some 90 percent of the Devon County Council area is on target to become.

With the release of Microsoft Office 365 beta, businesses will look to save time and money. Fledgling businesses or start-ups with a dependency on fast broadband will have such a small area of Devon to consider, it will be straight to Cornwall.
