Exmouth and Woodbury Residents Say No to Superfast Fibre Optic Broadband!

I am fed up with the slow broadband connection that I try to work with every day, from home, in the Exmouth area and want to do something about it. Yet it seems that very few other Exmouth residents want to ensure we get superfast broadband.

Am I the only one? It seems that I'm only one of a few though, as The BT Infinity Race says that only 3 people in Woodbury have voted to have superfast broadband, and only 24 people in Exmouth.

BT is looking for campaigners to rally the troops in each community! You can apply for a campaign pack. BT is launching The Race to Infinity over the next five years, which involves rolling out superfast fibre optic broadband accross the UK, and what they're recommending is that if your area isn't on the announced roll out plan, to fast track your area to get BT Infinity next.

The five areas in the UK with the largest percentage of votes by December 31st 2010 will win the chance to bring superfast broadband to their area. BT will also donate £5,000 of computer equipment to a local community project.

If we could get this for Exmouth, social and business life could be transformed. To vote, simply enter your details on the Race to Infinity website and pass the message on by tweeting, facebook or any other form of social media. One vote per address and a minimum of 1,000 premises votes to be eligible as an exchange.

I don't see how we can afford not to win this race - do you? Have I got this right? Is it all areas of Exmouth and Woodbury that have a really slow broadband connection?

There are many people who will get suckered into the infinity survey, but they chose a good name, it will be a case of they will help in the great infinity, ie never. small communities are not viable for a business with a £xxbillion pension deficit. Rural areas will be fobbed off with BET, bonded copper delivering 'up to 2meg' through the obsolete phone lines at high cost. The cost will be for the user, or it will be subsidised by foolish councils like they are doing in Cornwall.

You know, I hadn't even thought about the potential for this to just be a way of a big commercial giant preying on people's needs at a basic level. You seem to know a lot about this. Surely though, even if we get any degree of improvement it's something? Or do I need to just read the link you've included?

If this Race to Infinity isn't going to help get us faster connections, what is? Do you know? I am constantly frustrated, trying to work from home.

Its a race to nowhere. Its just a scam. They won't help you, they are just after council and RDA funding to implement their BET - which is bonding copper lines to give you a meg if you are lucky. Read the small print on the infinity site then read this article: http://tinyurl.com/38mkfdw
