Exe Estuary big spring clean-up: meet at Exmouth's Imperial Recreation Ground on Saturday (14 May) at 10am
The Exe Estuary Management Partnership say that over the past four years volunteers have made a huge impact on the health of the Exe Estuary by helping to clear litter that accumulates in the estuary.
According to a spokesman, “this litter and waste not only tarnishes the beautiful landscape and harms wildlife but risks the safety of the people who enjoy using the site for recreational activities, such as walking their dogs, kite surfing, and bird watching. It is essential for the wildlife, safety and beauty of the Exe that these events continue, but they are completely reliant on volunteer help and support”.
Volunteers are being asked to meet at Exmouth’s Imperial Recreation Ground in Exmouth at 10am to spend a couple of hours cleaning up the Exe. Afterwards those who helped in the clean-up will be welcomed aboard Stuart Line Cruises for a free cruise of the estuary, including a buffet, at 1pm.
Gloves and necessary equipment are provided, but it is important that volunteers wear sensible clothing and footwear such as wellies or old trainers, and bring sun cream just in case. Families are welcome, as are friendly dogs; children must be accompanied by an adult.
If you are interested in attending then please call or email Estuary Officer Stephanie Clark to book your place. (01392 382236 / exeestua@devon.gov.uk)
