We have now visited the Langstone Cliff for Sunday lunch, on four occasions, and it has become our venue of choice. The welcoming ambience allows you to be as formal or informal as you want it to be. We are always welcomed BY NAME by the charming receptionist. Likewise the Bar Tenders Mark and Laurence recognise us instantly, and are always attentive and cheerful. Food has been sensational on each occasion, Service is excellent, no matter how full the restaurant is. I have enjoyed lamb steaks twice, and the delightful sweets are all home made, and simply delicious. We are usually so full, that we are unable to eat the cheese and biscuits offered, so enjoy coffee with cream on the lovely sun terrace. The waitresses are attentiveness itself, happy, and chatty, and clearly have a passion for customer service...THANK YOU Tasha, Mandi. Jenny and Sandra........We even got chatting to the gardener, who has the mammoth task of keeping the grounds looking so nice, and he was so pleased that we took and interest in the plants, and shrubs, that he showed us around. I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel, and struggle to understand some of the negative comments on this site. For quality and value, I have not found better in this country. Just returned from a short midweek break at the Langstone Cliff Hotel.
Good first impressions as we drove down the tree lined drive way, plenty of parking for guest, welcoming reception, friendly staff, clean big rooms, (We had a sea view and balcony, rooms 50 & 52) The hotel is warm and welcoming with comfortable fittings and furniture in the lounges. The gardens are well maintained and to sit out on the terrace looking at the sea having afternoon tea is a real joy.
The service and food quality was very good, there is a wide range of snack meals available all day. Although we didn’t use the tennis court, table tennis, indoor pool or outdoor pool, snooker, hair, beauty and relaxation salon, they all looked very smart and again well maintained.
Evening times were very relaxing sitting in the comfortable lounge (We were not staying during one of their entertainment breaks, but the ballrooms looked great) before going to bed. Our rooms were a very nice size and with large windows, clean and light with a good size bathroom (bath/shower) TV trouser press and tea/coffee making facilities.
Dawlish Warren train station is a 10 min walk away through the gate at the bottom of the hotel garden. For a great day out we took the train to Paignton, then the steam train to Kingswear, on the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway followed by the ferry to Dartmouth.
Overall a great place to stay and would certainly recommend it. Our hotel businesses are struggling due to the wet weather this year, so please help them by booking a break………. you won’t be disappointed here!

Spent three lovely nights at this superbly run family run Hotel. Booked at the last minute and were delighted we chose this hotel, we could fault nothing. It suited us as a mature couple, but would equally suit young couples or families of all generations. Lovely grounds and facilities including indoor and outdoor pools. We were fortunate to have a balcony room and superb weather to enjoy it.
The location is good. The area is well served by local trains and buses and the ferry from Star Cross to Exmouth is well worth trying. We didn't use the car while we were staying as we walked or used the trains ( station less than 10 minutes walk away) and went either Torquay or Exeter way.
