CAFE UNO CLOSING IN TWO WEEKS
By Redundantista | Tuesday, August 25, 2009, 12:38
Yes, it's definite. Cafe Uno will be closing it's doors in 2 weeks time. Apparently, the cafe has been sold to the jewellers in Albion Street.
The staff have only just been told by the owners and probably wouldn't have been told at all had they not confronted them to clarify the rumours.
Some of the staff, who've been working there from anything up to 4 years, are very unhappy as, having never been given contracts or terms of employment are unsure where they stand with regard to redundancy payments.
(Does anyone out there know where they stand, legally with this?)
So it's a great shame that a fabulous little cafe with really good, friendly, efficient and LOYAL staff has to close.

to be honest i am really glad the café uno is closing as the service is slow and the staff unfriendly

ReportI am not in a position to comment on whether the staff did or didn't know that Uno was closing. However it is a shame that they're closing as it was a good alternative to the stereotype cafe that we have in Exmouth. I guess that Costa Coffee opening virtually next door did Eddie and the staff little favour.
Although there are many places in town to go for an early morning coffe/tea I think that you will find it hard to better Franklins. A superb outlook combined with excellent food and drink and well trained and friendly staff makes this the place to go, in my eyes

ReportThat's awful. It's often the workers who are the last to find things out. I know a friend who recently went through something like that for a big company in Surrey. Rumours were flying around and yet the directors kept telling everyone that everything was fine. It doesn't give people a chance to find new jobs, that's the trouble. I'd advise visiting tinyurl.com/lgxz9b or calling the helpline on 08457 47 47 47 - for independent advice on employment law etc.
