Crowds will spill onto Exmouth Quayside walkway tomorrow evening, as supporters of Exmouth and Lympstone Hospiscare gather for the popular ‘Canapes on the Quayside’ fundraiser.

For the third year running, locals will raise a glass to the ongoing work and success of the charity’s Homecare nurse programme and to the support and training offered to volunteers.

Lynne Elson, administrator for Hospiscare, said: “It costs £150,000 to pay for the nurses each year, and last year we raised over £1,500 from this event alone. This year, we hope to top this and are aiming for £1,800 – we’re just hoping for good weather and a good turnout.”

The charity event was inspired by Terry Darville, a resident of Clipper Wharf, and he hosted 235 people at last year’s event. Eagle One developers also donated £100.

He said: “The first year we held it, 140 attended and we raised £815. It must now become an annual event.”

Drinks and canapés will be served between 7 -9pm, costing £6.00 per person. The event takes place on Wednesday 15th July.

Hospiscare needs to raise £3.5m this year to continue their services for thousands of local people. Over 70 per cent of funding comes from fundraising events such as Canapes on the Quayside, providing vital new pain-relieving equipment and a wide range of services including community nursing, day care, bereavement services and complementary therapies.

ExmouthPeople.co.uk is a community-led website and we’d love to know if you attend this sophisticated drinks evening in the Quay. We’ll be updating you on how much money the event raises.
