Chinese Restaurant Names

I have just returned from a lovely evening out in Exmouth and something is puzzling me.Can anybody explain to me how Chinese restaurants get their names?
For example we have China Garden but they do not have one square yard of garden!
We have Noble House with no signs of nobility. And we have Bamboos with not a cane in sight!
I would welcome an explanation as to how these names come about as, in my youth, we frequented The Rice Bowl which is self explanatory?

Ps I dined at The Ganges tonight

I agree too, The Ganges is absolutely the best Indian I've come across, and I originally come from the Midlands, where there's a great choice of Baltis and Indians. We stumbled on Ganges recently, up the top of High Street, and will definitely be going back. Delicious.

ReportWell it's just a name isn't it?! It's almost like saying why did you call your son Dave! It will have a meaning to you, you like the sound of it, you heard it somewhere else, there could be millions of reasons! Why does anyone call anything a particular name? Answer: They just do!

ReportGood comments from good contributors. The Ganges is in The High Street in Exmouth and a veryt fine establishment it is as well. However I think that you are confusing your restaurants Nitida, as there is copious amounts of seating and also a very fine takeaway service. I did chuckle at your comment regarding a river flowing through the premises.

ReportI've been to one called the China Cottage - and I have never seen a building less like a cottage! Any there were no mountains anywhere near The Silver Mountain.
