Coeliac Awareness Event in Exmouth
By blackandblue1 | Wednesday, April 07, 2010, 15:28
We’ve all heard about Coeliac disease in recent times and many of us won’t have a clue what it is! Many may also think of it as nothing more than a food allergy or intolerance... Many may even think it’s nonsense!
-
Come along to Manor Gardens and learn a thing or two about Coeliac disease and the support available... or just come along for a fun packed day out!
In fact, it is something we should all know more about. Coeliac disease is triggered by gluten, a type of protein found in various foods, such as cereals containing wheat, rye and barley. There is also a smaller percentage that have found themselves sensitive to oats.
Saturday May 6th, between 10am to 6pm, will see the Coeliac Exmouth Group holding their biggest event to date in Manor Gardens. The main aim of the event is to raise awareness of the condition. But who said you can’t have fun at the same time! The main stage will have music, with the local Fire brigade band at 2.30pm. For the kids, there will be face painting and loads more to keep them entertained. Local producers of gluten free products will be also be on hand.
Publicity is key to an event of this kind, so if anyone would be kind enough to put up a poster advertising the event, please get in contact. Obviously, tell all your friends too!
For further information, please contact Dot Taylor on 01395 225333. You can also visit www.coeliac.org.uk to find out about symptoms, diagnosis, the myths of Coeliac disease and help available.

ReportThis certainly does sound like a good event. I have a friend with Coeliac disease and the difference it made to her life when she was diagnosed and started watching her diet was incredible. The large supermarkets now have supplies of gluten-free foods and I think it helps to make the wider public aware of conditions like this.

ReportThis sounds great. The organisers should put posters up in the outlying villages such as Lympstone and Woodbury, too.
