Dismay as residents fail to block quarry

CAMPAIGNERS say they are disappointed over their failure to stop a quarry reopening.
But they did win concessions regarding the plans for the Venn Ottery quarry. Aggregate Industries is to recommence quarrying at the site, but it brought protests from residents who were concerned about lorries using narrow county roads. Devon County Council has decided to permit lorries to use the B3180 to take material from Venn Ottery to another site on Woodbury Common – but Aggregate Industries will have to pay for road improvements.
