If you haven't got a date today, or your partner hasn't pulled out all the stops for you, don't despair. You don't have to feel that you're just left hanging or waiting around for something better!

Psychologist Dr Laura Brown of Seattle's Argosy University, told iVillage that "Love is not about a particular day, or cards or flowers, or even being in a relationship. Seeing the illusory nature of this holiday can be the first step in feeling better about it."

Sally Kite, 32, Exmouth, said: "My husband and I got engaged on Valentine's Day and so it's always really special - but we both refuse to get swallowed up by all the hype and make a point of going out for a lovely meal the following week or sometime around then. This year, we're doing some home improvements together, which I think is really lovely. Valentine's Day is about celebrating being a team for us."

But if you are single, recent research from the Office for National Statistics suggests that you are definitely not alone! We've hit record levels with the numbers of singletons. The UK is now home to more than 1.65m single men and 1.27m women. Ladies - now is your time! Perhaps it's a good day to check out a dating website. Have you done all the tried and tested favourites and given up? Well, have you heard of these websites? Loopy Love or Girls Date for Free - or even Dating for Parents?

Share your Valentine's stories - romantic or just insprirational singleton tales, on Exmouth People!

Blackandblue, do I read your reply correctly?
Are you imbibing your pregnant wife with alcohol?
Or have you got her mixed up with your 'true valentine'?
I was always lead to believe that giving alcohol to pregnant women was a no no.......... I also think that women have a tendnecy to become pregnant after too much alcohol.
    Anybody care to contribute?

PS. Was your valentines day so bad that you had to write on here at 12 minutes past 1 in the afternoon?

Valentine's Day is really hard for men to know what to do - do you book a table in a nice restaurant only to be surrounded by dozens of other couples all 'being romantic' or do you come up with something more original? I think that as long as you show that you've put thought and effort in to arranging something, it counts! I went to Darts Farm, bought some ingredients to make my wife a lovely dinner and - as she's pregnant - I bought her a mini bottle of champagne to share. The whole 'Valentine's Menu' puts both of us off to be honest.
