Who's the 'Loo'ser?

Well, having (reluctantly) spent the last few days in London after 4 months in our beautiful town, I was interested to see if anything had changed in the big smoke... Believe it or not the only thing that left  me reeling is the fact that using a loo at one of the main railway stations had gone up a whole 10p! 30p from 20p - an increase of 50%!

Now you know I'm not the most financially stable of persons at the moment, but in the interest of research (and dry underwear) I decided to blow 30p on a spot of investigation.

So, had the loo roll been upgraded to luxurious silky soft? No.

Had every cubicle at Charing Cross a fully operative hook on the inside of the door on which to hang your handbag etc...?  No.

Were all cubicles serviceable (am I wrong or do we all like a clean bowl?) Well, I'm not entirely sure about that as by then I'd been on the receiving end of some very strange looks by the cleaning staff, so decided to dry my hands (Hand dryers by Dyson  -scarily efficient) and make a swift exit.

To sum up, no visible product upgrade for 10p extra and a pretty poor show overall...

My tip... swan into the nearest hotel and use their facilities... if you look as if you belong there no-one will stop you... Or just stay in Devon... not only are they clean but free, too...

My question is - just how much should we expect to pay to spend a penny?

If you are at Paddington, which is likely if returning to Devon, the bar on the top floor has free toilets.  Save the 30p and put it towards a pint while you wait for the train

It's outrageous isn't it? I certainly think staying in Devon is the safer bet. So far, I haven't had to pay anywhere...  actually, on this point, paying for services that should really be free, I read an interesting article in the Sunday Times, saying how those who can afford it are now paying for healthcare because the services for NHS patients are so poor - particularly in comparison to the US, where you stand a much better chance of getting urgent treatment in time to make a difference to your longevity or quality of life. I'm guilty of it myself - I'm paying for physio treatment because I didn't want to wait the average 8 weeks that I'd have had to locally. I pay for private dental care, too. When I moved here a year ago, to get on an NHS list I'd have had to leave a message on a central helpline and they'd have put me on a waiting list for an initial appointment. So instead, I'm paying for Tesco dental insurance and seeing a really good dentist in Exeter. I'm starting to wonder why I pay national insurance!
