I've got a soft spot for the dear old Bicton, partly..

I've got a soft spot for the dear old Bicton, partly because it's pretty much the only really traditional local left in the town centre, but also because you can usually find somewhere to sit down and enjoy a drink and a chat without having to yell at your companion or contend with rioting children. It's an odd thing to say, but the Bicton's bare floors, weary decor and utilitarian furniture actually add to its charm. Let's face it, there's no danger of it becoming a happening pre-club venue any time soon - and that leaves the rest of us to enjoy those quiet drinks, as well as the really rather good free music evenings - possibly one of Exmouth's best-kept secrets. Folk, country, rock, jazz - even classical - the Bicton is where Exmouth's musicians gather to listen and play along, cheered on by the enthusiastic regulars. No food (unless you count crisps and pork scratchings), no frills (you can't even get mineral water), but in its own way, the Bicton's a little gem!
