Perhaps I was just unlucky, but recently I had some poor food at The Clipper. My burger arrived in a very sorry state, not brilliantly cooked, not great quality meat and in a bun that wasn't fresh. The lettuce leaves were wilted and one of the leaves was the outside of what I presume had originally been an iceberg. The salsa sauce was suspiciously no more than just a dollop of tinned tomates with some added spice. The chips were probably frozen and were exceptionally average. I left some of the meal because it was so unpleasant. The pub's ambience is reasonable and it's obviously fine for an occasional pint, but on this occasion the food was poor quality. Let's hope that this was just a one-off.

We went into The Clipper for lunch, off the cuff. There is a Family Area at the back, so we chose to sit at the front of the pub. The service was very friendly, helpful and efficient. We both had a char-grilled home-made burger each, and it was delish. The bun was fresh, toasted and soft, the salad on the bun was fresh and crispy. The chips, although frozen, were crispy, non-greasy and tasty. My partner had a bacon and cheese topping on his burger which was tender and full of flavour. I had blue cheese and mushroom sauce topping on mine, which was lip-smackingly yummy. We both had a pint – my partner had a local ale and I had lager – both of which tasted clean. The meal and drinks together cost us £14.50, which in our view, is very good VFM. We would definitely go there again, perhaps with friends for lunch.

In my opinion this is one of the best pubs in Exmouth. It is a great place to visit in the day time for a casual drink or meal with friends. The food is good and the prices reasonable. There is a good atmosphere in the evening and the beer garden is really nice in the summer. I would recommend you make a visit here if you haven't already!

ReportThere is no bar/restaurant/coffee shop more welcoming in Exmouth. The warming fire has been most welcome in all the snow and ice this winter. The friendly, welcoming and helpful staff bring your drink to your table. The hot drinks all have the same price, very reasonable too. And the hot chocolate can come plain or dressed in cream and marshmallows. Yummy!!
I can vouch for the toasted teacakes too. They are very fruity and scrummy with butter and jam.
With a family area this is the ideal venue for morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and evening meal.
