This is literally my absolute favourite pub in Exmouth. Set back from the seafront it is ideally situated, with perfect access to parking. I always enjoy sitting outside on a sunny day and watching the world go by. The pub food is delicious, last time I was here I had a chicken burger with chunky chips, followed by an ice-cream sundae. But the menu changes on a regular basis depending on the season. Children and dogs are welcome and there is a good selection of real ales and ciders.

ReportThere's every reason why this should be a great pub - lovely beachside location, nice interior, pretty garden, upstairs balcony with sea views, and Young's beer. The problem is the overpriced food, which is at best average, and at worst horrible. The Grove purports to be a gastro-pub when in fact it's just part of a chain serving reheated mass-produced meals at overinflated prices. On a recent visit, a friend found the fish and chips inedible, and got a lukewarm apology and an offer of another plateful, which she hastily declined!
It's nothing short of scandalous that the Grove should be serving frozen fish, when fresh local catches are being landed daily just yards away. Likewise, meat, game and vegetables could, and should, be sourced locally and cooked from fresh. If they're not prepared to do that, then the Grove should at least admit that what they're serving is fast food and reflect that in their prices. And another warning: the Grove management has a reputation for taking a cavalier attitude to room bookings - don't be surprised to find your booking cancelled because something more lucrative came up.
