Kings is definitely more than just a garden centre with its excellent Plants, Furniture, Beautiful gifts, Homemade Cakes and Dishes. We often visit as a family for lunch or just refreshements, there is always so much choice, something to suit everyone. Would never hesitate to recommend Kings Garden Centre to anyone.

I have returned to Kings this Easter weekend, the food was sadly no better with very cheap quality of chips served. As a Sidmouth local, I eat out in all the surrounding garden centres and cafe's. My wife and mother came to the same conclusion as I did about the poor quality of food at Kings during our last visit, please see my last post below.
Footnote: I don't seek to disagree with other posters, neither do I wish to undermine other people's opinions as "balony" I just post my experiences as I find them on any given day.
I am sorry but I have to disagree with Robbie who is entitled to have his own views and to say them without censorship but to say that the food in the restaurant is not up to scratch is a lot of baloney My wife and had lunch there today with one of our daughters in law and a grand daughter our food was delicious, hot served with ample portions of salad, chips and slices of ham off the bone that would have delighted the most enthusiastic food critic. If Robbie is not going to go back again that is a pity as he will i am sure eat his words if he does because the food is excellent!!
The centre itself is smaller than most but this makes it personal and very cheerful and friendly. I do find some of the items on sale to be on the dear side and that means hunting around for value. The restaurant seems no longer as good as I remember it. Plenty of choice on the black boards but my ham egg and chips were very average, especially when paying £7.29. Chips were not best of quality, with 2 slices of ham sliced so thin you could almost see through it. It may be Devonshire ham as advertised, but it just doesn't match the thick cut off the bone quality you now find in many other surrounding garden centres that cook their own hams. My mother's rarebit (cheese on toast) was on very thin cut bread, again, a thicker cut toast as you find elsewhere would have made so much difference. Coffee was advertised with gusto but in reality the coffee tasted charred, either over heated or over roasted beans.Overall I think Kings is a friendly garden centre but the quality of hot food and drink in the restaurant really lets this garden centre down which is why I can only give it 2 stars at present.
Kings is more than a garden centre, it's a little oasis of calm in a busy life.If you love gardening you can browse the trees and plants and shrubs. The miscellany of smells in the garden area are a treat for the senses. Many times I have visited the centre with my husband. I'm the non-gardener and know hardly anything about buying plants etc but I love the smells and I love browsing through the gifts; there are so many unusual items to choose from as gifts for special friends who may or may not be gardeners. You don't have to be a gardener to appreciate the beauty and/or uniqueness of some of the items for sale.
And of course there's the coffee shop for refreshment.....morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea, with delicious home made cakes and dishes.
