Friday 20th November saw Exmouth Amateur Boxing Club pay a fitting tribute to one of it’s oldest members, Mike Norrish, at Exmouth Pavilions. Mike died in July and the club soon decided to host a special evening of bouts and other sporting events in his honour.

Emotions ran high all evening and tributes were often paid, with a huge amount of respect being shown by one and all.

The main event was between Lympstone’s Matt Mason and Minehead’s James Bickham. Mason won the event against a Bickham who put up a very solid display. Bickham applauded his opponent in to the ring in recognition of his silver medal from the recent World Fighter Games.

Other fights during the evening included Eric Squires win against Morjkai Chown before his twin brother Jonah took to the ring to win against Boscoe Reynolds, from Minehead.

The evening included a skills display by Daniel Hardy and Poole’s Clarke Gutteridge, designed to show off moves learnt in the gym. At one point the ref had to calm things down, as enthusiasm by the boxers started to take over! A huge amount of skill was displayed by both.

Many other fights took place during the evening and all involved can be proud of the show they put on, Mike Norrish would have been proud.

Did anyone make it along to the night and what did you feel was the highlight?

What a good headline! Very witty and so relevant to the topic. I see a future for this reporter working alongside Messrs. Hislop and Merton.

I didn't even know that boxing matches took place in Exmouth. Are there often fights that are watched by crowds?
