Fancy a challenge that requires you to be innovative and creative, as well as offering above all else, fun? Those of us that know and love Woodbury Common, are going to be in for a treat come the 31st January 2010. Mud and Sweat, a company with a background in orienterring and adventure racing, as well as extreme sports, have set a mountain bike challenge that will stretch us all, physically and mentally.

The event combines off-road biking and the skill of navigating. Following paths and tracks within Woodbury Common, there will be a number of route choices. The course lengths vary and duration's are suited to the individual cyclist and their abilities. So don’t fear if you’re still carrying a few of those extra Christmas pounds!

If you do want to prove you’re the best, the event will be run using Sportident timing systems, so you can review your timings once you have finished. You will be able to check your performances between checkpoints and compare yourself with others. All results are posted online and are usually available within 24 hours.

As well as the solo event, you can ride as a pair or family group. A map is available for those who fear getting lost! This is available at an additional cost of £2.50 on the day.

There are five categories on the day. Family, Solo Short, Solo Long, Pairs Short and Pairs Long. There will be a prize for each group winner... As well as light-hearted prizes for the muddiest and sweatiest!

Start times and entry costs vary and should be checked online, at www.mudandsweat.com

Sounds a bit scary to me AL Grace. The last time I was up on the Common, I was sat in my car minding my own business and these very peculiar people kept approaching my vehicle asking me if they could watch!!
I had no idea until I spoke to a friend about this as to what they were in fact alluding to. Needless to say I will not be venturing back to that car park in the dead of the night again!

Thanks Pedigree-Chum, this sounds like a great way to explore Woodbury Common, though the last time I was in the woods I was suddenly asked by the Commandos to clear the area as there were soldiers in there! I take it there'll be none out there next weekend!!
